| More than 500 years ago, Spanish conquistadors landed in what is now Mexico and encountered natives practicing a ritual that seemed to mock death. Practiced by these indigenous people for at least 3,000 years, the ritual is known today as "Dia de Los Muertos" with Mexicans and Latin Americans remembering their deceased loved ones the first two days of November.
Javier Morin, DMC assistant professor of Spanish, will cover this special and popular celebration with a lecture as well as provide an alter display. Participants will also have an opportunity to taste the traditional bread or "pan de muerto" usually served.
