Beach Parking Permits to Go on Sale
The City of Corpus Christi Finance Department announces that beginning this Saturday, June 15, 2002, the City will be selling its new beach parking permits for Padre and Mustang Islands. The sale of the permits in areas of Padre and Mustang Islands that have been annexed by Corpus Christi was recently approved by the states General Land Office (GLO). Prior to the annexation, which took effect December 31 of 2001, beach goers needed to purchase a parking permit from either the City of Port Aransas or Nueces County, depending on which stretch of beach a person wished to park on. In an effort to make the purchase easier and to avoid the possibility of beach visitors having to buy multiple licenses, the City came to an agreement with the other governmental entities, which allows the sale of a single permit that is recognized anywhere along Padre and Mustang Islands. The cost of the permit is $6 per year, compared to $10 annually, as has been the case in years past. The new permits are stickers that are to be attached to the windshields of vehicles parking along the beach. They bear a striking design showing a wave about to break on the beach, with a palm tree in the foreground. Employees Proceeds from the permit sales will be used for beach cleaning and necessary beach maintenance projects.
