Artist Rolando Reyna Exhibit at Galeria Galvan

ROLANDO REYNA: SELECTED DRAWINGS FROM RANCHOVERSE

Corpus Christi, TX.-The City of Corpus Christi is pleased to announce an exhibition of the internationally recognized Texas artist Rolando Reyna. The exhibition will be on view at the Galería Galván located inside the Galván House at Heritage Park. The exhibition will open on Thursday, July 6 and will run until Wednesday, August 2, 2006.

Rolando Reyna was born in Victoria, Texas, in 1971. He received a BFA from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, and the MFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as a Holderness Fellow where he studied for two years with New York-based painter Cora Cohen. Since 2001, he has traveled every year to Oaxaca, Mexico, where he explores the indigenous cultures of both the Zapotec and the Mixtec.

Reyna's work demonstrates an assimilation of direct observations from nature and imagination-a personal iconography, so to speak, of personal experience, of South Texas culture, and of social and political issues that concern the artist. These themes are revealed through reflections of the human condition with insightful expressions that address the universal truths of existence.

He has shown in numerous museums and galleries in the United States and Mexico. His recent solo exhibition includes Richardson Art Gallery at the University of Texas-Brownsville, and Bailey Art Gallery at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. His work is included in the collections of the Art Museum of South Texas, and Weatherspoon Art Museum, North Carolina among others. He has been interviewed in publications such as Gulfscapes magazine, The Dallas Morning News, and various publications in Mexico. Reyna returned to teach in South Texas in 2000. Since then, he has taught at the University of Texas-Pan American, Coastal Bend College, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, and La Universidad Autónoma Benito Juárez Escuela de Artes Plásticas in Oaxaca, México.

Currently, Reyna lives and works in his studio in Live Oak County.
