University Cinema Film Series Examines the Styles and Methods Used by Directors in “History Making Movies”

The University Cinema film series at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will examine the works of influential film directors and the impact their work created on the film industry and in society.

The film series titled “History Making Movies,” is organized by Professor of Communication and TV-Film Dr. Bill Huie. The films are shown on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m. in Corpus Christi Hall (CCH), Room 118.

Before each film Huie will give a brief introduction about the style employed by the director. Huie’s students, mostly communication majors, are learning to recognize the different variations of filmmaking.

“The films chosen for the series were made by directors who were instrumental in the evolution of filmmaking,” said Huie. “Their views challenged the idea that the studio controlled the film and instead gave the director the primary vision of a film. For example, Elia Kazan, who directed On the Waterfront, started using method actors such as Marlon Brando because he wanted a ‘real life’ look and feel to his films.”

The public is invited to attend the free viewings and to take part in the discussions. For more information, call (361) 825-2316.
