Hispanic Chamber of Commerce 66th Annual Banquet
October 2005 Acclaimed Stage TV Actor, Director, and Producer Tony Plana to deliver keynote at the Corpus Christi Hispanic Chamber Banquet

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi Hispanic Chamber of Commerce 66th Annual Banquet and awards ceremony will be held Friday, October 21, 2005 at the American Bank Center.

CCHCC president Joe Cisneros announced that the keynote speaker will be Tony Plana, award-winning actor currently starring in the Showtime series, "Resurrection Boulevard." Honorary Chairman of the event will be Mark Contreras, vice president newspaper operations for E.W. Scripps Company. Several businesses and businesspeople will be recognized at the banquet, including Small Business of the Year.

Plana currently stars as the widowed, Mexican-American patriarch, Roberto Santiago, in Showtime’s landmark, groundbreaking hit series Resurrection Boulevard for which he has received 2001 & 2002 ALMA award nominations for best actor. It is the first English speaking weekly series in the history of television to be produced, written, directed and starring Latinos. Resurrection Boulevard is the first of its kind to be renewed for three seasons on a television network and the most awarded series in Showtime’s history including an ALMA award for best television series of 2002.

CCHCC president Joe Cisneros says Plana was chosen not only for his fame, but because of his dedication to minority youth. This year’s theme,” Empowering through Education and Opportunity," highlights the vision of both the CCHCC and that of Plana and the organizations he has founded - the East L..A. Classic Theatre and Beyond Borders literacy program.

Plana has starred in more than 60 films and performed on Broadway many times. Some of his more recognizable films include JFK, Nixon, Primal Fear, and An Officer and a Gentleman. He is the recipient of two Nosotros Golden Eagle awards for outstanding work in film and television.

CCHCC president Cisneros expects over 1,000 to attend. For reservations or ticket information regarding “Empowering through Education and Opportunity” contact the Corpus Christi Hispanic Chamber of Commerce at 361-887-7408 or by email at jcisneros@cchispanicchamber.org.

With your help and support, the 66th Corpus Christi Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet will be the most successful and remembered Banquet ever. We look forward to your participation in this spectacular event.
