PERCENT FOR ART PROJECT
AT THE CORPUS CHRISTI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Corpus Christi, TXIn recent days, the newly remodeled Corpus Christi International Airport is a busy place between 8:30 P.M. and 5:30 A.M., and will continue to be so until installation of a large suspended sculpture is complete. The artist, Ms. Shan Shan Sheng, has calculated the installation of the artwork will take seven to nine days. The installation began on October 19, 2004. When Sun Meets Water, working-title, consists of 41 large, brightly colored acrylic forms, and is being suspended, one element at a time, from the airport ceiling. When fully installed it will hang over and between both escalators, where it will remain. When Sun Meets Water was conceived, designed and fabricated by Ms. Shan Shan Sheng, a well-established international sculptress who lives and works in San Francisco, Ca.
The airport project is one of four City art projects underway at this time. When Sun Meets Water and the other art projects are purchased with funds generated by a City ordinance to encourage the purchase of visual art for the City Of Corpus Christi. The Visual Arts Committee of The Arts and Cultural Commission, one of several commissions appointed by the mayor, oversees the selection, installation, and maintenance of the Citys collection of visual art.
