CORPUS CHRISTI TEXAS - INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT COMMEMORATES CINCO DE MAYO WITH SPECIAL DISPLAY
Corpus Christi International Airport will be doing its share to help celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Beginning Wednesday, May 5, 2004, the airport will feature a special exhibit in the Hayden W. Head Terminal.
The exhibit will focus on the history of Cinco de Mayo as well as the roles played by notable Hispanic-Americans in shaping the history of aviation. The display is designed to help the traveling public learn more about the accomplishments of Mexican General Zaragoza, whose defeat of French forces during the Battle of Puebla is remembered today through the Cinco de Mayo celebrations. The exhibit also features information on such heroes in aviation as Oscar Perdomo, Max Baca, Jr., Sandy Sanchez, Jose Ramirez and many others. In addition, a number of handmade piñatas produced by local artist Amorette Garza will be on display.
Many of the items featured in the exhibit have been donated by the Buccaneer Commission and the South Texas Institute for the Arts. The exhibit will be on view at the airportÂ’s Hayden W. Head Terminal for the next several weeks.
